Tatcha Beginner's Guide 2026: Start With a $68–$95 Starter Ritual, Not a $93 Jar

You've walked past the lavender jars a dozen times. Maybe a friend swears by one of the creams, or you've watched someone pump a silky oil into their palm and wondered what the fuss is about. Then you open tatcha.com, see dozens of products, many of them in three sizes, and close the tab.

Starting Tatcha doesn't have to feel like that. The brand sells four small "Starter Ritual" sets built for exactly this moment, plus minis of almost everything. GlowTrials went through those sets, the mini sizes and the store's policies on October 20, 2026, and mapped out an easy first step for each kind of skin, in Tatcha's own words.

How a Tatcha Routine Is Built

Look inside any Starter Ritual box and you'll see the same order of steps, and it's a useful map for beginners:

  1. Cleanse: an oil, a balm, a cream wash or a gel foam, depending on the set.
  2. Polish or tone: some sets add The Rice Polish (a powder that foams with water) or The Texture Tonic.
  3. Essence: a watery layer that every set includes.
  4. Serum: in two of the four sets.
  5. Moisturize: a mini of one of Tatcha's creams to finish.

You don't need every step on day one. That's the point of starting with minis: you find out which textures you love before you pay for full sizes.

Start Here: The Four Starter Ritual Sets

Each set comes in a lavender box, and each has a stated value the brand prints on the page. We also added up today's mini prices for the same items where Tatcha sells matching sizes.

Hydrating & Plumping Set ($74, stated value $102)

Inside: The Rice Wash (50 ml), The Essence (25 ml), The Dewy Serum (10 g) and The Dewy Skin Cream (15 ml). At today's mini prices, those four add up to $103.

This is the set built around Tatcha's richest everyday cream. The Dewy Skin Cream's product page recommends it for dry and combination-to-dry skin, and The Rice Wash for all skin types.

Start here if: your skin feels tight by mid-afternoon and you like a cushiony cream.

Pore-Refining & Clarifying Set ($75, stated value $103)

Inside: The Matcha Foam Cleanse (50 ml), The Texture Tonic (75 ml), The Essence (25 ml) and The Water Cream (15 ml). Bought as minis, $105.

The lighter set. Tatcha recommends The Water Cream for combination-to-oily skin and the Matcha Foam Cleanse, a gel cleanser made with Japanese ceremonial-grade matcha extract, for oily and combination skin. The Texture Tonic is a liquid exfoliating treatment listing fruit AHAs, niacinamide and Japanese mugwort.

Start here if: you'd rather your moisturizer feel like almost nothing.

Calming & Strengthening Set ($68, stated value $93)

Inside: Indigo Cleansing Balm (13 g), The Rice Polish: Calming (15 g), The Essence (25 ml) and The Indigo Calming Cream (15 ml). As minis, $96.

The lowest-priced way into Tatcha, centered on its Indigo line. The cleansing step here is a balm rather than an oil, and the polish is the Calming version of the brand's rice powder.

Start here if: you want the smallest spend for a complete four-step routine.

Firming & Smoothing Set ($95, stated value $140)

Inside: The Camellia Cleansing Oil (50 ml), The Rice Polish: Classic (15 g), The Essence (25 ml), The Silk Serum (10 ml) and The Silk Cream (15 ml). It's the only five-piece starter, and the only one with Tatcha's Silk line, which is otherwise one of its pricier ranges: a full 50 ml Silk Cream is $125.

Start here if: you want to test the Silk products before committing to full sizes.

The Bonus That Comes After the Box

Buying any Starter Ritual set triggers an email with a code for 15% off your next full-size purchase on tatcha.com. According to the terms, it's only for purchasers of The Starter Ritual, one per household, can't be combined with other codes and is valid through December 31, 2026, 11:59 p.m. PT. That makes the starter a sensible first move: try the minis, then buy the one product you'd miss most at 15% off.

Your First Week, Evening by Evening

  • Nights 1–2: cleanse and moisturize only. Get to know the wash and the cream on their own. If your set has an oil or balm, use it first to take off makeup and sunscreen, then the second cleanser.
  • Nights 3–4: add The Essence. Its full ingredient list is six items long, led by Saccharomyces/rice ferment filtrate, and the page lists it as fragrance-free. It sits right after cleansing in every set.
  • Nights 5–7: add the serum or polish. Bring in the last pieces one at a time, so you can tell which texture you're reacting to.

That pacing is our suggestion, not a Tatcha instruction. Read each product's full ingredient list on its page before you start, and patch-test anything new, especially if you know fragrance bothers you. Some Tatcha formulas list fragrance and some are fragrance-free, so check each one.
