Checking a direct-to-consumer store before you order
A smaller store is not automatically riskier, but it is worth spending two minutes on the basics:
- Find the returns policy and read the window, who pays postage, and whether sale items are excluded.
- Find a contact route that is not only a form — an email address or phone number is a good sign.
- Check shipping to your country and whether duties are collected at checkout or on delivery.
- Check the total at checkout, not the product price. Shipping and tax appear late.
